Why Did My Google Review Disappear? (Causes and What to Do)
A missing Google review usually has one of five causes: it has not appeared yet, the reviewer deleted it, Google removed it for breaking its policies, a spam filter caught it, or something changed on your profile. Work out which one it is before you do anything. A deleted or policy-removed review generally cannot be brought back, so do not offer customers anything to post again.
You expected a review and it is not there. Or your review count dropped from 112 to 109 and nobody told you why. It is a common worry for business owners, and it feels worse because Google does not usually tell you when a review goes.
This guide covers the usual reasons reviews go missing, how to tell them apart, and what you can and cannot do. Where we describe what Google says, we point to its pages. The rest is our own reading of how this tends to work, and Google does not publish every detail of how it decides.
The five common causes
1. It has not appeared yet
New reviews are not always shown immediately. Google has a help page on missing or delayed reviews, and it says a review can take some time to show up. If the review was posted in the last few days, waiting is often the right first step.
2. The reviewer deleted it
People can delete their own reviews at any time, and they sometimes do so after an issue is settled or simply out of tidiness. Once a reviewer deletes a review, you cannot restore it. This is the most common reason an older review is suddenly gone.
3. Google removed it for breaking its policies
Google removes reviews that break its content rules, such as spam, fake engagement, off-topic content or inappropriate content. Its policy on prohibited and restricted content lists what is not allowed. A review that Google removed for a policy reason is generally not restored.
4. A spam filter caught it
Google uses automated systems to catch spam and fake reviews, and third-party guides report that real reviews are sometimes caught as well. Guides report that patterns which look suspicious include several reviews arriving at once from the same device or network, or reviews from accounts that look new or inactive. A real customer's review can still be filtered, and you may never be told.
5. Something changed on your profile
Google's help page says it may temporarily turn off user-created content, including reviews, for certain profiles or business categories, and that reviews can disappear around the time a profile is reinstated. Third-party guides also report that a merge with another listing or a duplicate location can affect reviews. We have not seen Google confirm those two. Several reviews vanishing at once usually points to something at the profile level, not to individual reviewers.
How to tell which one it is
| What you see | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| A new review you expected is missing | Delayed, or filtered | Wait a few days. Ask the customer to look at their own Google Maps account and check whether the review shows as posted there. |
| One older review is gone | The reviewer deleted it, or Google removed it | Nothing to restore if the reviewer deleted it. If you think a genuine review was removed in error, you can contact Google Business Profile support. |
| Several reviews gone at once | A profile change, a merge, a suspension or a spam sweep | Check your profile's status and any messages from Google. Contact support with the details. |
| Your count is lower than before, but nothing seems wrong | A mix of deletions and removals over time | Compare against your own records. See the section below on keeping a record. |
| Your reply to a review is gone | The review was removed, or the reply broke a policy | A reply is shown under its review, so it goes when the review goes. If only the reply is gone, check it against Google's content rules. |
What you can do
- Wait a few days for new reviews before you worry.
- Ask the customer to check their own account. If the reviewer can see their review as posted but you cannot see it on your profile, a filter may be holding it back. If they cannot see it either, it was probably removed or never went through.
- Contact Google Business Profile support if you believe a genuine review was removed by mistake. Give the date, the reviewer's name as shown, and what the review said. There is no guarantee, and a policy removal is generally final.
- Do not ask the customer to post it again and again, and do not offer a discount or a gift to do so. Repeated attempts and rewards both break Google's rules and can make the problem worse.
- Check your profile for any suspension or verification issue if several reviews vanish together.
How to avoid reviews being filtered or removed
You cannot control what Google decides, but you can avoid the things that make reviews look suspicious:
- Ask every customer the same way, and attach no reward.
- Do not collect many reviews in one go from a shared device or the shop's Wi-Fi.
- Do not ask staff, friends or family to post reviews.
- Do not buy reviews or join review-exchange groups.
Our guide to getting more Google reviews without breaking Google's rules covers each of these. If a fake or abusive review is the problem instead, see how to remove fake Google reviews.
Keep your own record
Google does not tell you when a review goes, so the only way to notice is to keep track. A note of your total and rating each month is enough, and it shows a pattern if one appears. A reputation dashboard does the same thing automatically, as in our guide on what to track.
How Replykar handles reviews that disappear
Replykar keeps a copy of your reviews so it can show your response rate and rating trend. Because Google does not announce deletions, Replykar checks once a week whether the reviews it has stored are still on your profile, and removes the ones that are gone so your totals match Google. It only does this when it has read your whole list of reviews without errors and the number to remove is small. If anything looks unusual, it changes nothing and leaves your numbers as they were, so a Google outage cannot wipe your history.
See your real review numbers
Replykar tracks your reviews, response rate and rating trend, and keeps its numbers in line with what is actually on Google.

Why did my new Google review not show up?
New reviews can take a few days to appear, and some are held back by Google's automated checks. Wait a few days, then ask the customer to check whether the review shows as posted in their own Google Maps account.
Can a deleted Google review be restored?
No. If the reviewer deletes their own review, it cannot be brought back. A review Google removed for breaking its policies is generally not restored either, although you can contact Google Business Profile support if you think it was removed by mistake.
Can I ask a customer to post their review again?
You can ask once, politely, if they say it did not go through. Do not ask repeatedly and do not offer a discount or a gift. Rewards for reviews are against Google's rules.
Can a competitor make my reviews disappear?
Anyone can report a review, but Google checks reports against its policies, and a review that follows the rules should stay. If a genuine review vanishes, contact Google Business Profile support. Do not assume a competitor is the cause without evidence.
Why did my review count go down?
The most common reasons are that reviewers deleted their own reviews, that Google removed reviews for policy reasons, or that a spam filter caught some. Several reviews dropping at once can point to a change in your profile, such as a suspension or a merge.
